The Historical Value of Hemp: Source of Textile, Mother of Garments

The usage of Hemp is origin in China. In the garments industry hemp was called "Source of Textile, Mother of Garments. Archeology research shows, the usage of hemp can be traced back to the New Stone Age(about 10,000 years frome now). The hemp texture was found both in the pottery unearthed from China mainland and Taiwan. Hemp is the first tamed and used natural fiber(includes hemp, silk, wool and cotton). In New Stone age ruins such as Chengtoushan Ruins, Daxi Culture Ruin, Zhejiang Hemudu Ruin,Xi An Banpo Ruin, Henan Peiligang Ruin and Wuyang Jia Lake Ruin, many remains like bone needls, fabrics and potteries with woven marks were found. These proved the usage of hemp is 5,000 years earlier than silk, 6,000 years than wool and 9,000 years than cotton.

From 5,000 years ago to the Han Dynasty, hemp textile technology reach its mature stage. Many splendid hemp textiles and beatifu hemp trimed garments were unearthed from Mawangdui(Han Dynasty Tumb Ruin). Its shows hemp textiles has been tributed to noble and rich people for thousands of years. In many Chinese literatures also describes the Hemp garments and textiles.

All these shows Hemp Culture exist for thousands years, and hemp deserves the name of "Source of Textile, Mother of Garments".

The Civilized Value of Hemp: Sense of Honor, Holy and Talisman

Hemp is the mile stone of Human Culture. At the time when human eat raw meat, drink blood and wearing leaves and animal skins, "garments" is only protect body and withstand cold weather. But when human begin plant hemp and corps, feed cattles, agriculture and animal husbandry were formed. Which makes human not feed by nature directly, but depend on our intelligence and labor to creat life sources. The earliest fiber is Hemp. By the fiber, thread and ropes were made, textiles and fish net were invented. Garments enter human's life.

Because of hemp, garments devided into men's and ladies, human begin to have the sense of honor and disgrace. Hemp is also the totem at the ceremonies to worship heaven, earth and ancestors. Hemp is not only worship by Chinese, by Asia but by the whole world.

The Resources Value of Hemp: Rare, Precious and Unique

Hemp is a rare textile material, which is only 2% of the total natural fiber. It is a functional and ecological textile fiber. The excellencies include Anti-bacterial, Breathable, Anti-electrostatic, Harmless for Body, Odor-resistant, Anti-ultraviolet, Thermostable and Eco-Friendly. It is accepted by world as unique ecological resources. Besides textile, hemp is used at many field and shows great performances.

Medical: Hemp seeds contains rich unsaturated fatty acids, mostly oleic acid, linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, gamma-linolenic acid and protein. Widely used in food, health car and medicine.

Chemical and Paper: Hemp can used to make paper, fiber board, binders, paint, inks, solvents, polymer plastics, pulp and paper.

Automobile: The door plate and dash board used hemp already put in Audi, Mecedes-Benz and Ford.

Personal Care: In 1990s, European firm introduce lines of hemp oil-based personal care products, including soaps, shampoos, bubble baths and perfumes. Hemp oil is now marketed throughout the world in a range of body care products, including creams, lotions, moisturizers, and lip balms.

Bio-Energy:Biofuels such as biodiesel and alcohol fuel can be made from the oils in hemp seeds and stalks, and the fermentation of the plant as a whole, respectively. The energy from hemp may be high based on acreage or weight, but can be low based on the volume of the light weight harvested hemp. It does, however, produce more energy per acre per year than corn, sugar, flax, or any other crop currently grown for ethanol or biodiesel.

The Ecological Value of Hemp: Healthy, Eco-friendly and Natural

Hemp is the oldest natural fiber. For thousands of years it remains its exellences of natural life.

Although the enviromental and biodiversity benifits of growing hemp have been greatly exaggerated in the popular press, Hemp is nevertheless exceptionally suitable for organic agriculture, and is remarkably less "ecotoxic" in comparison to most other crops.

Hemp reduces the need to harvest trees for building materials, pulp and paper or other products, its use as a wood substitute will tend to contribute to preserving biodiversity. Hemp may also enhance forestry management by responding to short-term fiber demand while trees reach their ideal maturation.

The most valid claims to environmental friendliness of hemp are with respect to agricultural biocides (pesticides, fungicides, herbicides). Hemp is known to be exceptionally resistant to pests, although, the degree of immunity to attacking organisms has been greatly exaggerated, with several insects and fungi specializing on hemp. Despite this, use of pesticides and fungicides on hemp is usually unnecessary, although introduction of hemp to regions should be expected to generate local problems. Cannabis sativa is also relatively resistant to weeds, and so usually requires relatively little herbicide. Fields intended for hemp use are still frequently normally cleared of weeds using herbicides, but so long as hemp is thickly seeded (as is always done when hemp is grown for fiber), the rapidly developing young plants normally shade out competing weeds.

The Aesthetic Value of Hemp: Noble, Casual and Harmony with Nature

Harmony with the enviroment is the natural character of Hemp. It show uniques style for its combnation of novelty and historical. Many cunsumers are willing to pay a premium price for it. Right now there are various style of hemp fabrics from silk like to heavy canvas to meet peoples different taste. It also became the ideal fabrics in the hands of famous fashion designers such as Giorgio Armani.

The Future Value of Hemp:Global Intergration and Share the Resources

From 90's of last century, the global demond for natural fiber increase in the speed of 8% annually. For hemp the speed is 30%. U.S. and EU are the traditional consumer countries of hemp. Asia and China are the new market and the expenses on natural fiber can be predicted to have more than 40% increase due the economy and life style. The market potential is very big.
